The NASMᵀᴹ Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASMᵀᴹ PES) training course is designed to give you a tool to help your clients, especially your athletes, reach their maximum performance potential. This scientifically based, advanced cardiovascular and strength training will be of maximum benefit to your clients. And to your business as a Personal Trainer or sports coach.
These training models are based on proven scientific data, a systematic approach and an integrated exercise program.
NASMᵀᴹ PES was originally developed as the 6th phase (Maximal Power) of the Optimum Performance Training® (OPTᵀᴹ) model.
With the in-depth knowledge and understanding, and the skills to apply it, you will master strength and fitness training including tools that improve speed, agility and quickness.
This course is aimed not only at Personal Trainers but also at anyone who works with athletes in any discipline. It meets the level required by any performance professional.
To provide athletes with advanced training in the context of individual performance objectives.
- Master the fundamentals of performance enhancement.

Module 1 : Anatomy and physiology of sport
- The basics of integrated training: its principles, components and scientific basis
- The science of human movement: terminology and key topics in biomechanics, functional anatomy in relation to integrated sports performance training
Module 2 : Performance testing, integrated training and programming
- Performance testing: components and function of an integrated sport performance assessment, methods for determining athlete readiness to perform
- Flexibility training concepts: scientific rationale as part of an integrated programme
- Energy systems training: difference between aerobic and anaerobic energy systems, importance of the role of energy systems training in improving sport performance
- Core training concept: importance of core training in performance improvement
- Balance training concepts: balance training in sports performance improvement, injury prevention
- Plyometric training concepts: Plyometrics and its role in performance improvement and injury prevention
- Speed, agility and quickness training: SAQ techniques (speed, agility and quickness), their role in performance enhancement and injury prevention
- Resistance training concepts: importance of resistance training in improving sports performance, stages of general adaptation syndrome
- Science of periodization in the OPTᵀᴹ model: the intricacies of the training variables in the Optimum Performance Training® model
Module 3 : Olympic lifts and injury prevention
- Olympic lifts for performance enhancement: their use in this context
- Injury prevention: injury prevention strategies, common injuries related to physical activity
Module 4 : Sports nutrition and psychology
- Nutrition and performance: limitations of nutritional advice in the Personal Trainer profession, pre- and post-exercise nutritional recommendations
- Ergogenic aids: common substances used to enhance performance, ethical and legal issues
- Psychology of sports performance: role of psychology in sports excellence

Exams
Teaching culminates in a theoretical exam.
The final exam is administered online in the education portal. It consists of 100 multiple choice questions, to be completed in a maximum of 90 minutes. A score of 70% is required to validate the completion of the course. Three attempts at the exam are included in the price of the course.
Qualification
After passing the multiple choice questionnaire, you will be find the "NASM™ Performance Enhancement Specialist certificate" on your NASM™ account.
Enrolment criteria
To participate in the course, you must be at least 18 years old and hold a NASM™ Certified Personal Trainer (or equivalent) certification.
